Patient Training
Structured training programs for persons who are chronically ill. They are usually given by our team in the form of courses or seminars. Patient training is aimed at enhancing the self-competence of persons who are chronically ill. Such transfer of knowledge and practical tips can help to make the individual's life better and more satisfying, despite his or her having a chronic illness.
Patients suffering from a chronic illness, e.g. diabetics, patients who have had a heart attack and/or those with a coronary heart disease, or patients suffering from a chronic lung disease are even registered, given their consent, by the health insurance in so-called disease-management programs (DMPs). The patient pays regular visits to his or her family doctor for medical examination relating to his or her illness. The type of examinations depend on the illness, e.g. lung functioning, ECG, ergometry, laboratory tests, etc. Moreover, training is also offered, this being geared to teach the patient how to be able to live better with the illness.
More and more scientific studies (e.g. the Elsid Study) confirm that
patients in the disease-management programs live longer and better.
The legal work applying to public health insurance (Code of Social Law V) states in section § 43 (Additional Service for Rehabilitation) that patient training may be supported by the various health insurance schemes.
We offer training for patients with the following illnesses:
• Bronchial Asthma
• Chronic Obstructive Bronchitis (COPD)
• Diabetes Mellitus
• High Blood Pressure
Other training courses currently in preparation are:
• Overweight
• Chronic Backache
• Lipid Metabolism Disorders
and the major theme: "How can I eat properly, so that I can live well and long?“
After all, the saying "One is what one eats"
has been proven in a number of major scientific studies.
