Magnetic Field Therapy TheraCell®100 - New Methods in Pain Therapy TheraCell®100 is a medical device for local, non-invasive treatment of pains. The TheraCell®100 therapy has proven to be excellent for cases of acute pain, muscle injuries (especially in high-performance sports and mass sports), as well as for orthopaedic pains. Indications Typical areas of application are: degenerative joint diseases, pain therapy, healing of broken bones, sports injuries and skin diseases. The TheraCell®100 can either be used as a stand-alone device or as an additional diagnosis and treatment option. Counterindications are use of a pacemaker or other sensitive electronic implants, metallic implants, epilepsy, condition following an organ transplant and immunosuppression, severe cardiac dysrhythmia, or acutely severe infection. Technical Operating Principles The unique effect of the TheraCell®100 is based on a high-energy pulsing magnetic field that can be generated within a matter of nanoseconds and then disappears quickly again. For this purpose a high-voltage generator is used to build up a voltage of between 15 and 30 kV, which is then discharged at lightening speed. The energy is transferred to a specially developed, three-times-twisted treatment loop, which generates an intensive magnetic field. The intensity of the magnetic field surpasses that of the earth's magnetic field (approx. 40 microtesla) by a factor of about 1000 (40 – 76 millitesla) and is well able to penetrate the cell membrane and exert a therapeutic effect within the cell. The effects of this magnetic field are felt by many patients during application. The individual pulses are transferred to the body with a low application frequency of 1 to 3 hertz. Thanks to the extremely short duration of the individual pulses, no temperature increase takes place within the tissue. The magnetic field penetrates the tissue to a depth of up to 18 cm, which means that even deeper-lying tissue layers are also reached. The parameters "magnetic flow density (intensity)", "Application frequency" and "period of application" can be set using separate controls. This permits adaptation to the requirements of individual patients. Cell Therapy At the cell level, the TheraCell®100 induces complex reactions that promote a normalization of the membrane potential. At their membranes, cells develop an electrical potential that is decisive for the functioning of the cells (for metabolism and for their communication with each other etc.). A diseased cell is no longer able to maintain this potential. The electrical potential decreases and with it the ability of the cell to carry out all of the important processes required for normal functioning. The TheraCell®100 induces electrical potential within the cells, which has a normalizing effect on the membrane's potential. The potential generated by the cell membrane depends on the thickness of the cell membrane, 50mV to 100mV (depending on the type of ions observed) being exceptionally high. To exert a controlling influence on this potential an induced magnetic field must have a sufficiently high amount of energy available to it. The TheraCell®100 was specially designed and developed such that it can generate the necessary energy and can transfer it effectively to the cells, without harming healthy cells in the process. In this connection the TheraCell®100 also exerts an effect on a number of different cells. The TheraCell®100 supports the healing processes, increases the partial pressure of oxygen in the tissue and improves transportation and absorption in the tissue. The TheraCell®100 therapy normalizes the cell functions and the complaints associated with the illness subside. Treatment with the TheraCell®100 The treatment with the TheraCell®100 can be given without contact. The patient must not even remove his or her clothing. To localize the source of the pain the therapist conducts a screening, prior to treatment, using the TheraCell®100. For the screening the intensity is set to 100% and the frequency to 2.5 Hz. The duration of the treatment can be set to any value between five and ten minutes. Then the therapist drives the treatment loop slowly over the body of the patient, beginning at the shoulders and ending at the feet. When the loop reaches painful regions the patient usually has a throbbing, pulling feeling. Localization of Sources of Pain with TheraCell®100. The treatment loop is led slowly over the body of the patient. At sources of pain the patient clearly feels the effects of the magnetic field. In this area the treatment proper is then undertaken. One begins with a low setting and increases the intensity of the magnetic field slowly until the effect of the magnetic field is sensed weakly by the patient. On no account should the treatment be unpleasant or painful. The treatment time per area should lie between five and twenty minutes. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated.
